Hi there people im new at this and need help. im trying to build a gaming computer but i'm a little nervous when looking for parts because i'm afraid not everything will be compatible. I will be playing mostly RPGS and RTS games. My budget is around $850-900 with a copy of windows 7. I will be keeping my old mouse, keyboard, speakers and monitor. My max resolution is 1440 by 900. I wont be overclocking and i plan on running CrossFire somewhere down the line. As of now im planing on ordering the parts within the next 2-3 weeks. If anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

Is there any reason to stick with ivy bridge instead of haswell?

1. get 3570k and a decent air cooler (cooler master hyper 212)
2. GET A SSD!
3. it is recommended you upgrade your power supply and it is highly recommended to upgrade your power supply if you are going to run haswell so that you can get benefit from haswell's c states (low power consumption when doing nothing)

edit : you are new! welcome!

Thanks for the replies people and I'm glad to be a member of this forum.

I chose Ivy bridge because of the price. Should I spend a few more dollars for haswell? And as for the PSU which psu series should I buy from and do you guys have a particular one in mind? I don't need a whole bunch of wattage right now just enough for this build. When I do crossfire (which I plan on doing in 6months or so) Then I'll get one with really high wattage.

Rosewill Hive or XFX Core Edition

Better and more cost efficient to just get a good PSU now instead of later down the line.

Also, if its just for gaming, Ivy Bridge is fine.

if you only plan on playing RTS and RPGs then you won't notice a big difference between 1GB GPUs an 2GB GPUs. The benefit really shows us when you are playing MMORPGs, Massive Strategy games like Civ V, FPS, and other games that are much more intense with the textures. If you played SC2 on a 1GB GPU you would have no problem at all. But the price difference really isn't significant. $10-$20 more is worth the extra GB because you are very likely to have a game that will benefit from it.

guess I'm the only one that thinks you could do better with RAM... not bad RAM (what I have) but I'd prefer to have actual 1600Mhz RAM instead of having to tell my Mobo that the RAM can run at 1600Mhz instead of the default 1333Mhz.... if you want to pop RAM in and not mess with any BIOS settings, go for something else.

something like that but ur link states- "Memory: 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory, 2800(OC)/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules" so I'm guessing it doesn't support 1866Mhz... BTW- I have AMD and it's different than Intel. I'm not familiar with XML profiles and what-not for the RAM etc... so I have to point out that you might not run into the same stuff as I did with your first pick.

i would shell out the extra $10 for the 2GB one. you can snag the XFX CORE Edition HD7850 2GB for $175 which also comes with a $15 rebate making it $160. You can get it on Newegg, but the shipping is $7. Amazon has it for the same price with free shipping. of course it would be nicer to have the OC versions of the GPU but if you want the best bang for your buck and you are on a tight budget i think the XFX i mentioned would be more than adequate, especially since you plan on crossfiring in the future.

If you are only going to have one video card then you can drop the PSU to 550 watts and still have power left over
