What am i Missing? WRT54G2 is super expensive new, but pennies used? Why the polar pricepoints?

Thread Starter
So i replaced my In-Laws router today with a much better Asus rtn65 vs their old WRT54G2 linksys...

The thing is,i was all excited to get the old one (the WRT54G2) to ebay it and sell it,as i saw that the WRT54G2 is selling for $150 new on Newegg currently....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124284

Much to my surprise when i tried the ebay seller tool thingy it showed the average price they were selling for was TWELVE BUCKS! ($12)

Is it me or is this a bit extreme? I understand that routers dont hold value, and people refurb them etc etc....But damn...$150 at Newegg,NOW....And literally 12 bucks used or open box elsewhere......and you know Newegg is able to sell them because they would just discontinue it if they weren't selling....

Very strange.....

Can someone explain this? im not a big router guy...Just know the basics....

And P.s. if there are any people here that are router savvy,i have a really good question about the router i just purchased,i would love to know the answer to.....thanks

Maybe they're no longer in production.

Retailer never lowered the price from the MSRP?

Its a low spec router compared to today's standards so people will have to sell them cheap if they want to get rid of them on ebay. Retailers on the other hand probably acquired them fro a lot more so they have to try to not take a loss.
