Need Help With my First Overclock!! AMD Phenom II X4 840 - Page 3

Your Vcore voltage seems rather high. I have the 620 stock at 2.6ghz and I am overclocked to 3.7ghz with a lower voltage than that. To possibly make it more stable with less voltage I would try loosening the timings.

If I remember correctly the cpu will play a part in the speed of the ram it might not be able to handle the ram at high speeds and lower timings so maybe try 10s for the your timings and lower your voltage and if still crashing lower your ram speed a notch. best thing to do is try and keep your voltage as low as possible even though your temps seem to be fine. i would start testing vcore voltage again at 1.45 and go up bit by bit after you loosen your timings and maybe your speed and see if you can accomplish it that way.

Thread Starter

Well I've had my first positive results from Prime95!! Ran Blend for about 3 hours without crashing. Temps never exceeded 45C. I'm going to write these settings down and start lowering Voltages and messing with memory timings. I feel like frequencies are all good where they are, I just need to keep my voltages as low as possible like you said.

When I change my memory timings, I understand that lowering the first three is tightening, and raising them is loosening the values, but what are the significance of the LAST TWO sets of numbers??

I'm at 9-9-9-26-25 , if I changed to 10-10-10, should I change the last two values as well?? If so what should I be following when changing those?? lower or higher the better??

Thanks for all the feedback!! Getting excited now biggrin.gif

EDIT: one more thing, I can't really fine tune my RAM freqs on this board.... That's where I've been running into trouble. I can change the voltages, and the timings, but when it comes to the RAM frequencies I'm rather limited. My RAM is stock at 1333Mhz, on my board, I can change it to 800Mhz, 1200, 1540, or 1700. (Roughly) Right now I'm at 1540, so if I go lower I'm underclocking my RAM. Is there any way to avoid this?

For the ram speed it is based on the freq of your cpu, so unfortunately no. I believe only on intel boards you can enable/disable XMP and set your own custom speed. Right now my ram is underclocked a little bit because if i go any higher i crash like my cpu cant handle it or something.

Raising the timings will loosen/slower but for the last two numbers I am really not to sure I havent mastered overclocking my ram yet my timings are all default as I havent looked into it enough to figure it out yet so id like to know what the last two numbers mean aswell.

Best thing to do is change one thing at a time so if you crash you know what it was that crashed, if you change your cpu voltage and ram timings and speed all at once its harder to pinpoint what is causing the crash so I would suggest start with getting your vcore as low as possible then change your timings
