I'm not aware of any non Xeon Intel CPU costing over $1000 released in the last decade. I seriously doubt they will surpass the $1000 dollar mark. If they do, it wont be significantly ie. $1050 or $1099.
What I do believe is there's a possibility that we may only get a 8 core X version of the CPU, just like how the they first came out with the 980X with an unlocked multiplier and then a 970 a few months later that was locked. Seeing how its unlikely they'll go back to locked multipliers, it's possible that either the lower two versions are going to be 6 cores and the X the 8 core version or a cheaper 8 core K version coming out a handful of months after the X. Either way, I've got 20 months to save up for a X.
DDR4, 8 Cores, I plan on picking up the 5980X or whatever it's called in hopes that I'll be able to ride out the next handful of generations for as long as 8 cores are the best, just like how the 980X has done. Edited by Syan48306 - 6/19/13 at 11:53am
