I thought 8xxx was like early next year? Not anytime soon?
Bought one. hope its worth it. anyone have experience with this particular card?
Like I stated in the OP I'm pretty sure it's a very lacking 7950 in terms of quality of model. It's still a 7950, which is a great chip in and of itself though. You can check my guide in my sig on 7950s on what makes a good 7950.
There terrible...........J/k there ok, some are rather good clockers and some are just ok. But better than any XFX card and even better then most gigabyte cards but not the cooler.
that... i wouldnt even say incorrect because it's so nonsensical.
OP is a reference card, which basically means it's just a different heatsink. There are plenty of reasons to buy reference cards - namely, you plan to replace the heatsink. The reference design and non-reference coolers are, at the same time, completely adequate (no overclock or small overclock, only gaming) or completely inadequate (any sort of significant overclock, GPGPU work which is what most 7950 purchases these days are for). The card will also run cool if you run in a milk crate, which is what many people are doing these days, so you may just not care about the cooling.
As for the actual card itself
, well, both XFX and this model use Elpida. We don't know if it's 50F or 60F elpidas, my guess is 50F. Not sure what the PCB is, but both of them don't use 7970 PCB and while the cheapo non-reference 7950 pcb is worse, it really isn't that much worse.
no VRM sinks on either card, so whatever. Saying the card is better than gigabyte though... that really makes no sense. You should be able to edit the BIOS to unlock core voltage on the new locked gigabytes, and the old gigabytes are literally perfect cards (the only 'perfect' cards except Asus 7950s DC2s, and a small percentage of some other cards like the HIS IceQx2 which now are using elpidas and no longer 'perfect').
So saying it's better than a gigabyte really makes no sense...
Now my hang-up with this card is does it have memory voltage control. If it does, I'd be willing to buy it.Edited by Belial - 6/16/13 at 10:09am
