Bent Gnd socket pin for maximum BCLK O/C?

Thread Starter
So I bought my ASUS MVE used, and the previous owner told me he has bent a socket pin on purpose for maximum BCLK overclocking (said he reached 109MHz on a 3770K).

He is a well known overclocker from my country so I can't say I don't trust him. However I would like to know what you guys have to say about it.

I got the board yesterday and it works just fine, running at 100.52MHz BCLK at default settings.

um what is this BS nonsense? lol Maybe that is what makes him feel better or it makes up for him selling the board with a bent pin?

All i know is that I have the BCLK WR and I didn't bend a freaking pin in the socket.

I'll ask him for more info then. IIRC he told me that this was mentioned in an OC guide by ASUS, so he should be able to back it up if he's not lying.

He told me about it before sending it to me, and the way he's done it it's repairable. He's just pushed it a little to the side He insisted that I shouldn't do anything with it though.

I don't think this guide is relevant. Nothing mentioned about any socket pin.

Since it works fine I have no worries, I was just curious to know what others think of it. I will contact the guy and ask for more information though.

What is your BCLK WR and on what CPU?

That is the guide written by the asus overclock who designs the Extreme Series ROG boards. Shamino is his name and he is given one or two boards every round to make his own, with Z77 it was the Maximus V Extreme and maximus 5 Gene, with Z87 it is the Maximus VI Extreme(the Hero is so much not worked on by him that it doesn't have any of the advanced tweaking options or memory OC profiles lol, even the Gene should have memory OC profiles, but the Hero no b/c he didn't work on it). There is also another guy named Andre yang and he is another one of their overclockers, he compares the Hero and the Extreme as a Toyota and a Ferrari lol, i thought that was a nice analogy.

Anyways I have 116.95 BCLK on the LGA1155 platform with 3770K with a Z77X-UP5 TH.

Interesting info! I always thought that if you're willing to spend that much money for a Formula/Hero you might as well go with the Extreme model.

Amazing score BTW. Didn't know you could score such a high BCLK on a board like this.

I didn't either until I started pushing it, it turns out that Z77 BCLk was both CPU and board, b/c i sold that board to a friend and he couldn't get close to my BCLK, and i tried another UP5 and it couldn't do close to that UP5, I guess people like JL could binn the PCH. The Hero is a cheap ROG board, i don't think its comparable to the rest of their ROG lineup when it comes to extreme overclocking.
