Remove laptop battery?

Thread Starter
My current lenovo y580 is largely acting as a desktop replacement and is running continously for 48-72hrs+
I`m wondering if I should remove the battery then?
its currently at 100% charge, perhaps remove it at 80%?

or should I leave the battery in continuously?

Definitely remove the battery if it is being used as a desktop replacement and plugged in for long periods of time.

Why? apart from weight.

the battery acts as a nice UPS should the power go off

(which it did for me a few times this year seems to be happening more rolleyes.gif)

well Its been running for 4 days straight now...
So I took out the battery

from what I understand once the battery reaches 100% charge,it stops charging till it drops to 99% which then switches on the charger like a PWM switch

I had and old lappy around 6 years back which I`d charge to 100% and leave it plugged in,and ocassionally use it unplugged till the battery died.
around a year back it started losing its charge capacity(it`d last 5 mins on battery) and it was like 5 years old, nothing lasts forever

though battery technology has probably changed a lot in 5-6 years I`m guessing

I have noticed with my laptop, that if you leave your battery in while it is at 100% and you still have it plugged in, its fine for short amounts of time. BUT if it's a common occurrence it MAY shorten the life of your battery.
