1.65v G.Skill ram. Designed for LGA2011 I7.

Hi Everyone,

I have to buy a new motherboard and ram and believe I have decided on the Asus Rampage IV Extreme.
I am also looking at some G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 2400 Model F3-19200CL10Q2-64GBZHD
but notice its suppose to run at 1.65v. I want to make certain that it will be ok with my 3930k imc.

It claims:
Quad channel memory designed for LGA2011 Intel Core-i7 processors and X79 platforms.
Intel XMP 1.3 ready.
Certified on ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboards

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes sir looks good to go to me. The quad, tri, dual single channel stuff is mostly a gimmick to buy that certain set fyi. However its obviously nice to buy a whole kit such as what you posted above. But yes youll be fine with that

Just be aware that it is VERY unlikely that you will get 8x8GB of memory to run at anything beyond DDR3-1600... It places a HUGE strain on the IMC, your CPU OC will suffer as a result. I know of only one person who has managed to do so, over at the ROG Forums, and he got crazy lucky.

BE SURE TO USE THE EZ_PLUG-2 (FDD Power Connector) on your board, or you may not even be able to boot.

Do you NEED 64GB of memory, or WANT it? If it's the latter, consider going with 4x8GB...

Also, you can save a LOT of money by getting the 8x8GB 1600 or 1866 kit, which is what you're more than likely going to be limited to anyway...

Finally, to answer your question: NO, VDIMM is NOT an issue! I have run over 1.925v 24/7 for weeks with ZERO issues.

What IS an issue is VCCSA and VTT1 voltages; DO NOT EXCEED 1.2V !!! Ideally, 1.1v is where you want to be, but you'll likely end up between 1.50v and 1.85v; keep as LOW as possible; these are the voltages that will cause very quick degradation of ALL C2 Stepping LGA2011 chips!!!

Hey thank you guys so much. That datasheet is amazing I should have Googled for something like that before I wasted your time asking. I did decide on the G.Skill 2400 and the Asus Rampage Extreme IV. Thank you Nleksan for the tip on going slower ram to save some money. The only reason why I decided to spend the extra anyway is because I am new to this overclocking stuff and want to see how faster ram slower cpu v.s. faster cpu slower ram plays out in a benchmark and how to best balance the two. More for a learning experience than anything. I am betting that I will end up running this with 1600. Now just time to wait for the shipping rolleyes.gif
