i7 3770K OC advice 4.3Ghz

Hi all,

I'm new to CPU Overclocking biggrin.gif
So I'm looking for an expert advice on my OC settings

Intel Core i7 3770K OC up to 4.3Ghz (43*100Mhz)
BIOS version 1908
Corsair H100i CPU Cooler
Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance 1600 Mhz CL9 DDR3 Memory kit
Corsair AX750 750W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply

Ambient temperature - 28~31C

I overclocked my CPU with following changes to BIOS settings

OC turbo ratio (multiplier) 43
CPU core voltage manual (fixed) 1.200
Load line calibration - Ultra high
CPU core voltage frequency - Auto
CPU current capability 100%

After 12 hours of Prime 95 Small FFT test it is stable and did not record any error or warning. Please refer the following screen shot after 12 hours of prime 95.

My rig is mainly used for gaming and I want to run my PC at least for 3-4 years.
Is my OC stable? smile.gif If not what else should I do? Any improvement to current settings? Is my core temp and Core voltage high to the current OC?

And I want to maintain my Core Temperature below 80C which is achieved with current OC smile.gif

Please advice me smile.gif

Your temps seem a bit high, but I guess with those high room temps you have, there is only so much you can do.

1.2v is a little high for only 4.3, your chip may be able to better, but you have to test it.

Everything you need to oc an Ivy chip on an Asus mobo will be found in the first post of this thread.

that is a very mild overclock.

if prime95 was stable for 12 hours, your thumb.gif.

i run 4.8ghz 3770k and i see temps as high as 90 in prime95. if you a higher overclock, simply follow this guys^ link http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards , same MOBO and cpu as you. should be able to hit 4.6 ezily.

I am running 43x at 1.200v, i could go down to 1.184-1.192, but then it can be stable for 3 hours+ in Prime95 and crash over the night, with 1.200v it's just being stable 24/7.

@OP: Only thing I'd recommend to increase is the CPU Current Capability to let your CPU draw a little bit more power than TDP, since you are overclocking it and it is going to take more power than being just in Turbo-mode at 3.9Ghz.

Hi all,

I live in a tropical country where the average temp is about 28~32C. So I think there is nothing I can do for the idle temp. And I think the other reason for high temps at idle is the FIXED Core Voltage. Well I don't care about the power consumption at this Core voltage unless it is harmful for my CPU with more Voltage and Heat smile.gif

So is this fixed core voltage and temp OK or do i need to shift to offset mode? smile.gif

This is the minimum core voltage (1.208v; achieved with fixed Vcore 1.200 and Ultra high LLC) that maintains a stable system at 4.3GHz with 12hours Prime95 for me. And at Core voltage of 1.200 in CPUz (achieved with fixed Vcore 1.190 and Ultra high LLC) it survived only 3 hours of Prime 95. So I don't think that I have a the best CHIP out there. rolleyes.gif Initially I wanted to OC it for 4.5GHz. But I personally prefer to maintain CPU temp at load under 80C. So I think this is the maximum I can do.

But If you guys have any more suggestions to improve my settings please let me know. And if possible please suggest a way to OC it for 4.4GHz with core voltage at load below 80C (or 82C redface.gif)

And please let me know whether I need to run more tests to ensure stability of the CPU such as Prime 95 Blend or Intel Burn Test.

Thanks smile.gif

Did you copy all the settings from the guide we linked, did you test with Prime95 27.9 with the settings shown in that guide, did you check for WHEA errors in Event Viewer?
