Distributed NoSQL and memcache do just that... they make a multi-TB RAMDisk.
Google's infrastructure makes it more like a multi 100TB+ RAMDisk....

They bought hardware from Texas Memory System (TMS) which prior had only sold to the military. TMS at the time specialized in DRAM-based SSDs and were beginning to look at NAND-based SSDs. TMS was acquired by IBM last year...

Military grade hardware isn't a real thing. The military uses Dell prebuilt desktops, toughbooks they pay 3 times as much as civilians for, macbooks with bootcamp, and ipads.
Military grade is a gimmick.
Not true at all... there are certifications. These cost time and money... one reason why mission-critical, medical, aerospace, and military hardware cost more for virtually the same consumer/enterprise part.
