7970 in MicroATX cases?

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I'm new to overclock.net, and wanted to ask you something. I want to build my very first gaming PC but I need some help.

I want to go on an HD7970 build, BUT it has to fit in a microATX case, and I want the case to be the smallest possible in height.

I've looked for the Silverstone SG09 http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=345 which seems to offer quite decent cooling, however it's still too big (I mean in height). Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Have you considered a media center case which is on it's side?

This one looks awesome and is one I actually want. It is also a fractal case, and in my experience, they make awesome cases!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352028&Tpk=fractal%20node%20605&IsVirtualParent=1

It's the Fractal Node 605 and it supports microATX.

Also, if price is an issue, you can actually get them cheaper from microcenter: http://www.microcenter.com/product/406714/Node_605_Silent_Home_Theater_Small_Form_Factor_ATX_Computer_Case

You can't get to much smaller in mATX then the SG09 except media center cases as the user above stated. You will have to go mITX if you don't like that idea.

Its just that I'm not used to this kind of format, but I'll consider it and if I can build something in it I'll think over it seriously.
And you're telling me that I can fit a 7970 without any kind of issue? Sounds interesting

Look at my rig.

Yes it will fit in most mATX and mITX cases but maybe not all.

if you are considering smaller, how about the SG08 for a mITX build?

i really like the tj08 from silverstone or the corsair 350d
post #9 of 9
i have the TJ08-E. i think it rocks. but considering the OP said that SG09 was too big...

only solution is to go mITX, and i think the SG08 is pretty good, or an SG05 if the SG08 is still too big?
