I'm expecting the Internet's effect on content (Gaming & to an extent Movies) & to be turbulent for the next 5+ years as a transport mechanism & associated licensing. Actually when has it been not turbulent...?Gaming that require Internet (Always on DRM)
Internet Gaming Portals (Steam, Ouya..?) - Hosting and delivering game content and holding the customers license.
Consoles - Playstation and XBox - Both are trying to change what it means to "Own" a game, into License, hence persons on all sides giving their opinion on what you are paying actually for. This will get good at $65-70 for normal good titles. "What!, You mean I paid that much and it's not mine? What do you mean license, I'm 14 and don't have a license to drive yet, and now I'm expected to have a binding contractual license?"
I can hear it now. Hell, the model is already here today on existing consoles. /popcornGaming that does not require Internet.
Consoles - (Playstation , Xbox) - This model is leaving the building fast with tons of double talk as new console launches comes closer. However if either Sony or Microsoft had their way you would Never Ever be able to play a game without their explicit capture of your doing so. They are now waffling about this "Publicly for all to hear", so this desire of theirs does not cause problems at Launch of the new consoles. Obviously without a doubt, they'll wait until they have a decent level of market saturation then an innocuous Patch and fine print will set things to their desire.
While I really like the idea of what the Ouya can do, it will be interesting to see if they stick, as Nividia goes agnostic to be just a technology provider to multiple game content providers.
Nvidia still has the handheld controller/video device they are looking to roll out, so not quite as agnostic as I said. Seems like they are playing both sides of the fence. and it's not shocking as they have been left out of both big Consoles for GPU's. It almost looks like revenge to steal just a tad enough market share to make both Sony and Microsoft pissed at margins as they won't be the only game in town /punintended.
