SB Recon3di Gigabyte Sniper 5 audio cuts out

Hi Everyone,

Just finished my first build. So far been a good experience. I upgraded the op-amp in the sniper 5 mobo to get better sound. I use headphones a lot. The usb headset I used for my Mac won't work most of the time, and the few times it did give me sound it xompletely bypassed SB Recon3di, which is another thread or a PM explanation. In drustration I tried a cheap headphone that came with an ipod and plugged that into the jack. This did work and SB recognized it though sound was, as I knew it would be, bad.

Then I got error messages saying No Device Detected even with the mic in the jack. I had to restart a few times to get rid of that error message. A few times the sound cut out completely on the mic. I could see music volume active (moving volume bar during a video) when I opened up the Audio, so it was sending the audio but my mic was silent/dead.

Any advice? Is this a known issue with SB recon3di? Also can someone recommend a great headset that'll give me nice audio and let me speak too when I'm gaming?

My Macbook air did fine with a cheap usb headset, but SB is above that simple headset or so it seems.

Thanks!

I apologize, but I did not understand a lot of what you wrote.

I think I get some of it, but if I make a mistake, please correct me.

It seems like you are trying to USB headphones and are wondering why it by passes the SB audio? That is because USB is digital. The ONLY sound coming from USB is unaltered digital data. In other words, USB headphones are designed to bypass things like SB audio.

As for the Mic issues, I have no idea. I do not use mics, so I have not encountered that issue before.

What is your budget for the headset?

Ah I thought the USB bypassed the audio on the mobo. I'll spring for any headset that has great sound. Is there a headset with a mic combo for gaming that's any good?

The other issue is that SB seems to stop detecting the mic even though it's in the jack. I have to reboot several times and then it'll recognize the device.

you should RMA the board, for some reason a first batch of these boards came out with some defects pertaining to the audio, i would call GBT and ask them to replace it.

I got it through newegg. So the audio on some of these boards doesn't work right? And it's a hardware issue vs a software issue that can be fixed with a patch or driver update/reinstall?

But there could be a mobo issue. Sometimes it won't connect to the Internet. Me ipad will using Safari, so I know it isn't my connection or my ipad wouldn't connect either. Is this also an issue with this board?

I'll call gigabyte tomorrow. It's painful just thinking about taking out the mobo after just building the rig.

no, i haven't heard of the internet issue you have two NICs, i would use the one that is the bottom most when you put the board in a case(that is the Intel NIC) as the top port runs of bigfoot NIC and the application control can sometimes throttle certain things.

I am not sure what your issue is you definitely shouldn't get having any issues with the audio, and this is the first time I heard of the sound just cutting out like that. You can try a few things, make sure your ME driver is installed along with all the other drivers. You can also try to uninstall and re-install the Core3Di software. Open up the DPC Latency checker and make sur everything is in the green: http://www.thesycon.de/dpclat/dpclat.exe some spikes into yellow are normal. There were a few guys saying their AMPed output was very distorted, but then none of the samples sent out to media and none of my retail sample have this issue and there are many owners many of which don't have the issue. All these boards are made in the same place in the factory in TW, that is where all the high-end boards are produced as the quality of work is higher than from China, so it is possible there might be some bad boards that came off a line, but it is hard to tell since I have only seen a few people complain, which shouldn't be happening at all even.

In my opinion I would contact gigabyte tech support, maybe this is a totally different issue. Its okay taking the mobo out, it will give you more practice haha. Your issue is different from theirs with the AMPed output being distorted, theirs was extremely messed up you could even hear it on a recording, it could also be their volume was WAY to high, as the AMPed output works at a much higher voltage and you don't just toss in high quality speakers which are powered with an AMPed output and not lower the volume.

Now that I told you this you might go back and try to hear distortion, if you don't hear it then it isn't there, you don't need to try to hear for it from what they were saying. Contact GTS if this is a known issue they would know about it, if it isn't they will prob tell you to contact newegg for a replacement. It is a really nice board, it is just at launch sometimes you find defected products as they have been sitting in a warehouse for a while, and god knows how newegg takes care of them.

Great info. Rep +1 smile.gif

I'll try what you suggested. I'm glad there are no Internet access glitches/hiccups you've heard about. That means it could be my provider or even google chrome, which might need a reinstall.

I'll also call gigabyte tomorrow after I do all of your recommendations.

Thank you once again!

EDIT: DPC Latency checker

Everything is in the green. Test interval = 1000us; Current latency = 176 us; Absolute maximum = 673 us.

It reads: This machine should be able to handle real-time streaming audio and/or video data without drop-outs.

Would this say my mobo isn't having an issue with the Internet?
