right now my cpu is at 2.55 ghz how much of a slow down would that be? I heard from some people that my cpu will bottleneck it and some said it will be just fine.

It will bottleneck it, but it will still be miles better than your 6800GS, and you'll still probably be able to max anything out at pretty much any resolution. It just won't perform as well as it would with an overclocked Conroe.

The bottleneck with an 8800GTS isn't as bad as a 8800GTX. With Oblivion there is almost no CPU limitation, because the GPU is doing most of the processing. I'd say get your X2 4400+ to 2.8 - 2.9ghz and you'll be fine

I wish I could. It craps out at about 2.7. I had to lower it to 2.55 to get it 12 hours prime stable, ^frustratedface^

You must have gotten a bad stepping. I wouldn't worry too much about bottleneck, it isn't noticeable in games just in benchies.

I would not worry too much about bottlenecking. Your games will run great. And I would get the EVGA. I probably won't buy anything else but EVGA.

evga, for sure. I'm still bottlenecked out the ass on my stock Intel Pentium D 805, but this card is a monster. I'm actually running F.E.A.R. completely maxed out without any problems. Once I get the C2D E6600, this thing will fly. Oh, and about your CPU bottlenecking it, it will. I've heard you need atleast an E6600 to feed the data fast enough to the card. Or a nicely overclocked E6400.

Have fun with the G80 8800GTS. Such a great video card series.

The 8800GTX is the one that needs an ultra fast CPU
You could use an X2 3800+ with an 8800GTS, but the X2 3800+ would have to be at 3ghz...

Meh. From what i've seen in benchmarks and read, the E6600 gives the best preformance for the 8800GTS. Even though I have seen people with nicely overclocked E6400's and GTS's to get a score of 17k on 3DMark05.
