Your advice on my overclocking, please.

Hello all,

I just built my new PC a few days ago, you can check that out here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1400729/brand-new-badass-haswell-build-d-pics

I know my way round pretty well with PCs, but this is my first time overclocking, so to be honest. I'm not quite sure if I'm going in the right direction.

Core multipliers were set at 46 in the bios and the core voltage at 1.25V. However i got a BSOD after 4 minutes during a stability test in Aida64.

Going back into the bios, I set the voltage at 1.3V and so far so good. Been running the test for 46 mins without any problems.

My question is: are 1.3V ok for the CPU or will that kill it ? I also set my Dram frequency at 1,600Mhz and the voltage at 1.5 (which are the default settings for my RAM anyway)

Am I going in the right direction? Your advice would be great, thank you.

I have read the few guides out there to overclocking the 4770k but did not feel comfortable playing with too much settings, so I prefer to ask here.

My specs:

Corsair C70 Case
Corsair H100i Watercooler
Intel i7 4770k
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 1600Mhz CL10 (2 x 8GB)
SSD Samsung 840 Pro 250GB
HDD Western Digital Blue 1TB
Corsair TX750 V2 Power supply
Gigabyte GTX 770 OC WF3

What are you temperatures?

1.3v is fine with Haswell, as long as you don't exceed 85'C - 90'C (ishh) during stress tests.

Also, you can set XMP profile for your RAM instead of setting every timings and DRAM voltages manually.

Also

You should use Prime95 27.9 and do a Custom Blend test with 90% of available memory.

Custom Blend with 90% of your available RAM. It will intensively test everything including RAM.

This example shows a setup with 32 GB

At 100% load, the temps are at 75-80 Celsius.

I already tested my ram yesterday, I did two passes with Memtest86+ but I'll give it a shot with Prime95.

I had run Prime95 for about an hour today, before overclocking, but I didn't really understand the results.. It justs says things like "12k Passed!". I guess as long as nothing crashes then it means the system is stable.

So 1.3V is not a problem? Is there anything I should be looking out for to change in the bios? Linus on youtube posted an OC guide for Haswell and he talked about a load of other settings I don't even have a clue about...

I will try to look for this XMP setting you're referring to in the bios. Not really sure what it is.

Cheers,

-Rich

I also have another problem.

CPUz doesn't show that my CPU is overclocked? Is this because of the power saving features? Because I turned "Speed smart" off in the bios, but couldn't find the C1E feature to turn off. :\
