Any consumer advocacy site will tell you to never buy the store's extended warranty, even for things more expensive than a game console. It's a scam profit center for the store; they rarely have to deliver anything but rake in tons of money by making you fearful that your expensive new purchase will break and the manufacturer will leave you hanging. Which usually isn't true, witness the problem X360s being replaced directly by Microsoft en masse.

So view it as "insurance on your time". The only thing you get from an add-on store warranty is the ability to exchange it there, rather than shipping it back to the manufacturer and having to wait for a replacement. If that's worth the price of the warranty, then go for it. But don't think you "need it" because your revision 1 console is definitely going to break.
