Orthos w/ TAT

Thread Starter
So when you run Orthos, both cores are loaded at 100% right? Being so..I get 52ºC - 54ºC on TAT and CoreTemp.

For those that use TAT. When I use TAT and Hit Start to increase the workload level to 100%. I get get higher temps, +10.

So when is it actually at 100%? Or perhaps right temp? Can someone clarify this ambiguity?

TAT puts a load every part of the processor at 100% while orthos loads only some parts of the processor 100% hence the higher temps with the TAT stress test.

Both are "right"

But for max temp...obvs TAT can raise it a bit higher...so that's your "max" temp....

who knows a program that can load more than Orthos though? if you can run orthos, you're stable....period.

TAT makes EVERY part of the core of the processor come on-line. While orthos is just FPU stress, but keep in mind you will probably never load up a processor more than orthos will, so if you pass the orthos test your good.

Stable.Good.Period.

However, my issue concerns the temp. It's enigmatic that when Orthos is loaded 100% the temps are lower than TAT loaded 100%.

May someone elaborate? What "parts?"

I see 100% for both programs.

A CPU has 'parts' on it that do the math operations and the gate circuitry (And, or, xor, etc).

Now, I'm not 100% sure on this, so if someone can correct me go ahead, but I think that one cycle of the processor will use either one or more of the parts, but it can't use the same part twice. For example, it can't ADD twice, but it ADD and do an OR operation. So, if you need to do lots of ADDs, it will show up as 100% cpu because the cpu is executing an operation every cycle.

However, TaT forcibly makes every single 'part' active for each cycle, all the ADDs, ORs, XORs, etc, which is rather unrealistic.

So I think the simple answer is, 100% load means the CPU is executing an operation each cycle. However, it is possible to execute more than one operation per cycle, and that is why there are different '100% load's.

Make it two. True or not.

However, if that is true. That means the TAT temps are unrealistic and when you are normally at full load [which I don't think ever happens except in these tests], you will not reach the temps in TAT.

Since I am simulated 100% correctly with Orthos..I think it's more accurate than forcing it on your CPU with TAT. Too bad I don't have a panel to monitor temps so I can see what temps I get when I game or do other stuff that stresses the CPU.
