ASUS Rampage Extreme IV - PWM problem - Page 3

Good luck with your ordeal Aspelta thumb.gif .

I have an older ASUS mobo also with a 4-pin CHA_FAN1, but its pinout in the manual (baroque as it is) don't make you believe that it is a true PWM header:

The Rampage IV Extreme manual is misleading, I'd also have assumed that all eight headers are true PWM from looking at it.

If all CHA_FAN headers are in fact DC, the pinouts should look something like this:

Plus an extra clarification below like:

"· The motherboard connectors labelled CHA_FAN1, CHA_FAN2 and CHA_FAN3 don't provide true PWM fan control capability, only voltage regulation through the 'CHA FAN PWR' (+12V) pin."

There is an excellent thread in SPCR about same problem in ASUS Z87 Deluxe: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=66283p=575840

Thank you for your help.

With Rampage IV it is even worse. All fans except CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT are non PWM headers. So the drawing should rather look like that:

Moreover, they are somehow linked together, and driven by one PWM signal from CPU_FAN, and CANNOT be regulated separately.

plus of course clarification in manual text below picture (as you wrote) modified as follows:

The motherboard connectors labelled CHA_FAN1, CHA_FAN2, CHA_FAN3 and OPT_FAN1, OPT_FAN2, OPT_FAN3 don't provide true PWM fan control capability, only voltage regulation through the 'CHA FAN PWR' (+12V) pin

and

CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT are PWM headers linked together and driven by one PWM signal

Best regards
Aspelta

No offense, but that one regards a splitter, and every additional component can/may muck things up. But I appreciate the help. I will just contact Asus for verfication and get back to here once I know.
