This generation has me considering jumping ship from the RoG boards. I'm wondering why ASUS' top offering is the only $400 board without the capability to run 2 way SLI at x16, I know the perceptible differences of these boards is negligible but a lot of purchasing at this end of the hardware spectrum is psychological. Consequently, I'm also puzzled by the OC panel thing when every other board has similar capability onboard. I feel like ASUS is resting on it's laurels with this generation and coasting by on it's goodwill. I'm real biased toward ASUS though and checking out with the MSI/Gigabyte boards on Newegg will be a painful affair.

Z87 launches are really interesting for me. The manufacturers have really separated out mainstream, gamers, overclockers and LN2 and created definite feature sets around those types user with lower cost versions of the Gaming and Overclocking boards. I think in the case of the highest end ROG board I agree that Asus in particular have put together a really expensive board that doesnt seem to be that great a value. It doesnt look better, overclock better or perform better than boards half the cost. What I really like of ASus' and all of the mobo manufacturers this time round what they have done with the mainstream and gaming. Lots of great options at a decent price.

Gigabytes and MSIs gaming boards look really great as well but again I don't think their highest end board is really worth the premium.

I agree—they did a good job of stratifying the consumer segments but with these product lines, it seems that there is a lot of overlap in functionality and features and a huge dose of marketing hype. Paradox of choice going on here.

Though there are some good function sells like the 5 year warranty, I think, most of the time, people wonder which board will allow the highest stable clock speeds with the least amount of fuss. Further, the same functions are being assimilated among the brands so I feel like the question becomes a more of a "which board fits my case color scheme" question. frown.gif

Hi there have bought gigabyte z77x-UP7 nearly a month ago with 3770k. I have chance for selling them at a good price to one of my friends. I intend to buy the new gigabyte z87x OC Force or Asus Maximus Extreme VI with 4770 k. So first of all , would I feel any difference? Second which is better of the two 1150 boards suggested above? Any advice....also for the rams what do u suggest for me Corsair or G-skill and which category thx all
