exactly. at work I had also only a few Hitachi drives, usually 500GB and 1TB 7,300rpm units, never a problem. however I see some complains about 3TB units from that vendor.
I usually deal with OEM Seagate drives and replace them with WD upgrades (more space and /or faster).

I had contacted the seller (on Amazon) of the UltraStar drive I was looking at and asked what the warranty was on it. UltraStars have a 5-year manufacturer warranty but I had read feedback about that seller that buyers should read the warranty fine print. I went ahead and bought the Reds between the time I asked them and now, but they just got back to me, and sure enough, the drives they sell have a 1-year warranty, although they are new. Rather go with the Reds anyway under such circumstances. Really the 5-year warranty is what draws me to enterprise drives, but if I'm not getting that, then... pfft! rolleyes.gif

yeah, totally understandable!

I love long and hassle free warranty with WD! good luck with Reds buddy!

Welp -- Amazon Prime delivered the two Reds yesterday, I took one Green out, manually copied the contents of the other Green over to the Red, that took a few hours, then I removed the other Green and installed the other Red, and again copied the contents of the first Red to the second.
All is well so far and of course I'm no longer having that obnoxious problem we discussed earlier!
Now what to do with those Greens...
