Things to consider: What's your friend's monitor condition? It's under warranty? and last but not least money it's a problem?

I never heard of Hanns-G brand so I couldn't recommend it, but neither I can't tell is it bad or good.
I have a Asus monitor and I love it, great contrast color and quality.

And well, I saw the 27" has build in speakers, I couldn't find if the asus does have, mine doesn't if you don't mind to have a headset or speakers I would go for it and save few bucks, again if is a good deal according on the condition.

My friend works in the pipeline so he bought it and only used it for a couple months and put it back in the box. And i think hannsG is a good brand. My cousin has had his for about 5 years and nothing is wrong with it. Also if im right they were the monitors used in MLG at one point

go for this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313
or if you want 27" go for a 1440p on ebay cause at 1080p it will just stretch out the pixel which to me doesnt look good

Honestly, if the Asus your friend has is in good condition, by all means get it. IPS, even if that one is not the full IPS(e-IPS)will still give great colors and quality that cannot be beat. Plus, the 27 inch 1080p will require higher AA to look sharper due to the image being stretched. So the Asus would be the best bet.

I would say go for it, look like is in great shape. Beside you wouldn't mess with shipping, taxation and waiting for it.
