What's the deal with HD3D?

I am looking to buy a new monitor, and I was thinking of getting a 3D capable one, even if I may not use it all the time. I have two 6950s in crossfire, so performance is not a problem. I am kind of confused on which monitors support the AMD version of 3D. Some people have been saying some Acer and ASUS ones don't work with it, and one that say Nvidia 3D vision don't also work with it. Another thing I have heard is that you cant get 1080p @120hz/60hz only at 24hz on HD3D, and you can only get that @720p. I also have heard that dual link DVI supports higher refresh rates, but I am still not sure what monitors would work with HD3D? Also, I may not game so much in 3D, but I would like to watch movies in 3D. Worst case scenario, if you guys say that 3D is really not worth it, I could just go with one of those Korean 1440p monitors.
I should also mention that my budget max is $450, and I would like a monitor bigger than 25 inch. This is also what I have been looking at: http://www.amazon.com/VG27AH-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B009YCIKWK/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371441369&sr=1-2&keywords=27+inch+passive+3d also looking at this http://www.amazon.com/LG-FLATRON-Monitor-D2743P-BN-Glasses/dp/B009P10UBO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Do you know if you can use DVI-D with HD3D to get 60hz @ 1080p instead of the 24hz limitation by hdmi? Also, is your tv passive or active 3D?
