That's definitely a point I overlooked. In that case, any recommendations on what mITX boards could take advantage of the speed?

The Maximus VII Impact can use M.2 at PCIE 3.0 x4

It can, but it will cause PCIE 16x run 8x instead since Haswell has only 16 PCIe lanes. Performance decrease with pcie device (Graphics card usually) is minimal (~1%) but m.2 SSD is huge increase compared to normal Sata6 SSD.

So putting my sm951 m.2 in this board would be a waste?

Recommend me a slower cheaper drive to put it ?

Thanks

It's not a waste at all. Then the SM951 will perform at its max. possible rate.
But you will suffer a non really visible performance loss on the GPU side.

All this because the CPU generation for the 1150 socket has only 16 PCIe lanes (in this case they will be devided as following:
4 for your SM951
8 for your GPU
4 remain unused

Hi guys,

Anyone know if the apogee drive 2 is compatible with the VIII impact?

I read in previous pages that it fits fine on the VII, but looking at some pics of the VIII seems like there are a few capacitors around the CPU that the VII didn't have.

Thanks in advance.

Indeed, it will have the same problem as the P8Z77-I which also had caps along the side of the CPU.

It's quite simple to solve however. I used a flat piece of copper, 20-30mm square and 1-2mm thick to use as a shim between the Apogee Drive 2 and the CPU. You can find these on ebay, e.g. search Copper shim Dell XPS M1330 GPU VGA

I might get this board used sometime. Is it compatible with the Asus OC panel? Better question, is the VIII Impact?

It is compatible with the OC panel. The VIII Impact is not. The only mother boards supported are the Z87 Maximus VI series and the X79 Rampage IV Black Edition.

I'm still using this board, bought it on release.

It's actually the best mobo i've ever owned. Running a delidded 4770k on it.

I was going to get an M2 drive for it seeing i've maxed all my power cables/sata slots...

Good to see it's likely not worth it... will be sticking a 1080 on it next week ...
