EVGA 680i voltages not adjusting... help??

Hey all, I finally bought a new rig and started tinkering with the settings in BIOS... I've been trying to advance my FSB up to at least 400, which shouldn't really be a big deal... but the voltage on the CPU core defaulted at 1.29, and won't keep it's setting when I turn it up to 1.35 (I figure I don't need to go outside the default range for this mild of an OC). At any rate, when I save and exit, and go to check my voltages, the CPU voltage says 1.35 under the "selected" column, but 1.29 under the "current" column. Any ideas on whats going on??

I would update to the latest BIOS. Seems like it isn't saving properly so your getting your current reading.

The bios has been flashed already with the latest. At any rate, for some reason the settings are sticking now, not sure what I did differently. I have a different quandry now- I'm getting like 6 different temp readings, and I'm not sure which is the most reliable.

The System status in the bios shows my CPU temp at 25 deg
TAT shows them idling at about 37
Temp diode I stickied to the top of copper block of my tuniq 120 tower says 31 deg.
Speedfan says 35 deg.
Any opinions or experience??

Also, does anyone know the safe temp zones for the C2D's?? (E6300).

Ok, your temps are fine, sub 60 for load is where you want to be. I would listen to TAT for your temp readouts.

I'm guessing the motherboard is automatically setting the vcore for you, because at that clock speed, it doesn't need more than 1.29v. (even though you set the board to manual). Asus put that in to artificially keep temperatures down, which is my guess, because why would you need more vcore if you really don't?

Currently one of the oddities that we have to deal with is a .06 v vdroop. Basically, whatever you set the vcore at the bios as, subtact .06 and that will be the effective vcore your chips is getting. This can be viewed not only in the bios, but also with cpu-z and other voltage monitors. 1.35 set at the bios = effective 1.29 which is why you are seeing no change. Set the vcore in the bios at 1.41 and you will get an effective 1.35.

Im not sure, im hoping it will be fixed with a bios update soon. That being said, I can deal with it until that happens, after all, I do have a 4'th grade education.

Alrighty, Thanks for the input on the VCore. I have it up to about 2.98Ghz on 1.30V and it's stiking around 52 C with 2x prime 95, super pi, and Company of heroes. I'm thinking I'll pull the HSF and lap it, because boy howdy, it looked like someone tried to finish it with a metal grinder... like probably the worse finish i've ever seen in an HSF. Basically I didn't have any material to lap it and was anxious to get it all together. I'm hesitant to lap my IHS though as I'm pretty sure that would totally void my warranty... maybe it doesn't matter since I've OC'd it... but then again, I haven't taken the voltages outside the normal range....

Thanks for all the input.

OH!!! something that's been puzzling me- I have SATA II drives, but I noticed that in the IDE controller properties window in device manager that they're only transfering at 1.0-1.5GB/sec..... Anyone know if there's a bios setting that needs to be fixed, cause I sure couldn't find it!

Doesn't really matter since HDs can't even get to 1GB/s transfer rate.

BTW... The latest offical BIOS is P21. However, I believe there is a P23 Beta BIOS in the wild now.
Once again...

Doh!!! what's the point of advertising a 3.0GB/s transfer if it's not going to hit that!!??

I think I'm going to stay away from anything Beta right now.. unless it's for supreme commander
