hi everybody.

looking to get a new modo and cpu soon but im having problems picking one out.
my two options are the m5a99fx pro 990fx and the gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud5. Now i'll most likely use an 8320 but there is a slight chance that i could get bumped down to the 6300 but, lets plan around the 8320 and, I will also be overclocking the snot out of it.

now if anyone could make sense out of all that and give me some feed back on the two boards in question that would be very helpful.

mk16.

I've got that gigabyte, it's an amazing solid as hell board. I had the UD3 and I hit 5.2GHz with my 8350. However that board was never intended to go that high, so I ended up frying the VRM's on it. Can totally do it on this board though.

+1 for almost the exact same response. I owned the UD3 as well, and this was a while ago, with a Phenom X6. Excellent overclocking board, but due to unforeseen issues with CLC cooling and restrictive airflow in my case, the VRM exploded. This was after a year of heavy abuse though, definitely not "standard" use. Honestly, I'd say it did well, and would buy another if needed these days.

so the ud5 is good in your books? great but, hows the vrm temp I heard thats a problem on the udx boards. Also can you adjust the NB and HT speeds I heard that some where having problems with that as well.

also im adding a poll to this thread.

giga has been good to me, and you should consider RMA policy's . And always take into account do i need sli/cf and other hardware that will affect the cost of the MB thumb.gif

i have that's why i still want the giggy but i have heard bad things about their amd udx line. like vrm heat problems, board warping, and no adjustable NB and HT.

also no xfire single card for me.

VRM temp issue throttling is an issue with the UD3 Rev3.0. As for the speeds, haven't heard of that issue with the UD5

If im not miistaken the m5a99 evo also is passively cooled on the vrms. I believe only the ud5-ud7 and the sabertooth and crosshair formula v have active vrm cooling

im not asking about the evo only the pro unless the evo is better and, the pro, evo, and udx line are all cooled the same with heatsinks and nothing else.
