We could speculate. I don't know though. We'll have to find out.
If Gamestop was going to get shafted, we'd probably know by now. So far though, they seem to be okay with it.
But from Gamestop's President Tony Bartel
"th Sony and Microsoft have said games can be resold and that’s exactly what we anticipated,” said Bartel, who added that GameStop puts $1 billion in trade into the market and 70% of that money goes back into new game sales. “It’s a recognized way to make these games more affordable. All three new platforms understand that.”
Bartel said there’s no longer a need for backwards compatibility with consoles. When Sony first introduced the PlayStation 3, which was backwards compatible, a flood of consumers brought their entire PlayStation 2 library and consoles in for trades.
“As people upgraded to PS3 they traded in their old systems and libraries, which is why Sony made the move to not support backwards compatibility with later iterations of PS3,” said Bartel. “That’s why the ‘buy, sell, trade’ model works well. It enables people to purchase new games by trading in their old ones. We expect to see the same thing with this transition for PS4 and Xbox One. Trade-ins allow for a seamless transition.”"
If he thought Xbox One would shaft half of his revenue, we'd know by now.
