FX 8150 vs. FX 8350 - Crossfire Performance

Thread Starter
Hi all,

A while back I posted a little info on the crossfire performance whilst using a Phenom II 955, and the difference that the FX series had made when I first purchased the FX-8150. Those results and that thread can be found here > Phenom II vs. FX.

This time around, I had a little bit more cash burning a hole in my pocket and decided to purchase the FX-8350 (spur of the moment type thing I guess). Once again I took the liberty of running some 3DMark Benchies and thought I would share them with OCN for anyone who is curious or has thought about the same upgrade path for their own system.

SETUP

Asus Sabertooth 990FX MOBO
Corsair AX850 PSU
Patriot Wildfire 120GB SSD
Patriot Viper Xtreme Div.2 Memory (4x4GB) 1333MHz
Asus Radeon 7970 DCII (CrossfireX)
Samsung MD230x3 Eyefinity (5918x1080)

COOLING

XSPC Raystorm CPU Block
XSPC RASA RS240 Kit

FX-8150 @ 3.6 GHz (Stock)

FX-8150 @ 4.5 GHz

FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz (Stock)

FX-8350 @ 5.0 GHz

FX-8350 @ 5.0GHz (Running 3DMark Advanced Edition FireStrike)

Once again, just here to provide a little perspective and insight to the curious.
To safe myself justifying this in a few posts time, I wasn't expecting a huge performance increase but some part of me did desire to have a stable 5GHz clock. I've achieved that with the 8350 (could only reach 4.7 with the 8150) and I enjoy my rig.

Cheers!

Great post! It's always interesting to see how performance increases with each architecture.

Nice post. +1 rep

Could you do it with them both at 4.5? That seems to be the speed that almost all 8150's and 8150's can hit so it would be good to see how they performcclock for clock.

Cheers Macleod, I'll do the 8350 @ 4.5 GHz and report back - good idea!

Thanks for posting! That actually isn't as big a jump as I'd thought. That's around 5% improvement if I did my math right (which I probably didnt). Piledriver is ~15% faster clock for clock so wonder why it doesn't show up here.
