It's like knowing the redline of a civic starts at 8K RPM and that running it at 7K the whole time is alright?

Yea sure these chips can take it due to Finfet transistors, but it doesn't mean that it's alright to push it, certainly not. I mean, you're running close to the boiling point of water, isn't that reason enough to chip degradation over time?

^ This is the way I look at it.
100°C won't instantly damage a chip or anything, I just see it as the max temp intel feels that will keep a chip alive long enough to pass it's 3 year warranty under stock vcore & heatsink conditions. Alive but not necessarily happy if running close to that under load for extended time.

At OCN a lot of guys don't keep a chip for 3 years so may not be a concern for them, but if it is, the higher the temps & voltage, the faster it will degrade.

In any case, the cooler the cpu is, the better! Haswell does make this tough... tongue.gif

As I mentioned earlier. I like my CPU's chilly. I don't mind getting up into the mid 70's though

If your chip runs low 80's under full load its all gravy baby. Perfectly fine for haswell.

Definitely agree.
