It's about the same, depending on the game.

So has anyone run benchmarks on games using W7 and W8?

I've had Windows 8 installed for quite some time and I absolutely love it. It was a great feeling to just go in and wipe the drive. I've got a little under a minute boot time, which to me is awesome. Looks much cleaner, runs smoother, all in all a better program in my eyes. I find the apps to be clunky at best on a desktop, and most of them not needed. They're rather difficult to get used to and offer little to no usefulness if you're familiar with a regular desktop. They have something similar to the program "Fences" built into it, which is nice.

The major thing for me is aesthetics. It looks much better than previous versions of Windows in the way of being streamlined. Everyone hated the lack of the start button, but without it is surprisingly much easier. Instead of navigating folder to folder trying to find the right path, you hit your start button, start typing a program's name, and it automatically starts searching for you.

I have some games that refuses to run on windows 8, like any Crysis release older than Crysis 2. Other than that, yeah, it works pretty good. However, if you do desktop capture (twitch.tv, livestream, etc), the performance suffers.

Personally i find it ugly compared to windows 7 .... 7 was a beautiful light weight os and any day beats this "modern" or "metro" also i know ive installed my drivers correctly because i reformatted ro win 8 .... Fresh install... Why do u think win8 is cheaper at msrp??? All im saying is ... Besides the fact that it boots up faster windows 8 is not better then windows 7 lol ...

Windows 8 is clearly snappier for me, it definitely copies files faster and definitely boots far quicker.
I didn't do much testing gaming wise, but it feels about the same.

If you are experiencing Windows 8 booting slower than Windows 7, you need to reconfigure your UEFI, and install with UEFI compliant media (the $40 deal ESD version was not, but can be put onto a USB stick for UEFI boot). With an SSD and proper install, Windows 8 boots SO much faster than Windows 7 it's silly. Not even counting the Hybrid Shutdown feature, which I do not, and will not use.

Edit: reading fail. Derp.

Anyways. It's cheaper because they have to do something to sell it, right? People get tired of paying $250+ for new copies of Windows every couple years. Vista Ultimate being even worse. I think Windows 8 was a step in a better direction.
