Need to fit 2 ethernet ports supporting 9K jumbo packets and a PCIex16 card in small space - Page 2

Thanks, that is a definite option then. Though the processor I have is an i7, and that only says it supports i3.

I'm also looking at this motherboard
GA-H77N-WIFI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128567

Which says it contains "2 x Realtek GbE LAN chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)"

If those work with jumbo packets, or the intel will work with an i7, then I'm all set. Otherwise, I'll just have to get the intel motherboard and buy an i3 processor.

Go the Gigabyte's page for it... they should list the NIC chip. If not, check the driver package.
Once again...

Thanks,

The specification on the gigabyte page still just says "2 x Realtek GbE LAN chip". I'll try checking the driver package.

The driver package has drivers that say Realtek_8111_LAN in the name. There appears to be an 8111E and an 8111F, but both show support for 9k jumbo frames, so it should be good.

Thanks a lot!

If you are considering using top end gigabit hardware, maybe you just need one 10GB nic.

10GbE requires infrastructure.... a 10GbE switch is a $500-3000 by itself.

I ended up just ordering the GA-H77N-WIFI, though I wish I'd ordered it from amazon, not newegg. I bought it yesterday at 2:00 pm and got overnight shipping and rush processing and they shipped it today at 10 am. Kinda lame.

Anyway, the problem with an NIC is just fitting it in the tiny field case. I had a motherboard with one Gigabit port, so a LAN card with just one would do the job. Hopefully this motherboard with it's dual on board gigabit Ethernet ports will do the job. Though we just found out that another issue slowing it down might not have been bandwidth, but that some of our software relies on CUDA, and we were using a radeon card. Hopefully with the new Nvida card we ordered and this motherboard it will work a lot faster.

For adding another 9gb its well worth it. I mean, you dont want to cheap out on your security. (I am assuming this is for business usage though.)

Also, just adding another ethernet cable and port isnt going to make a huge difference. Do you have something that will load balance the two? Also, what type of cable do you have and how far are the runs?
