The only people who typically report anything about drivers are those having issues. If someone isn't having any problems they usually won't report anything back. When someone posts something negative about drivers everyone and their mother comes out of hiding to express their same dislike for said drivers. This is why people misinterpret that drivers are actually bad. It's because the majority of people who are actually reporting anything back are those with problems while everyone else runs them fine. In the end drivers issues are isolated to a select fraction of consumers and people need to take their opinions with a grain of salt.
Drivers cannot kill cards. All of the predefined specifications for graphics cards are apart of the vbios and this is on a read-only basis with the drivers. Even voltage controllers have a hard limit that the drivers cannot overcome or change. Anyone who has issues with the drivers killing their card is either attaching a coincidental occurrence to the death of their card or there is PEBKAC at work.
