AM2 processors will not work since they do not have DDR3 controllers. AM3 chips can go in AM2+, AM3, or AM3+ sockets. No...No it won't even come close to working. I was giving you the benefit of doubt with the last post but not this time around.
AM2+ chips only work in AM2+ and AM2 boards
AM2 chips only work in AM2 and some AM2+ boards
AM3 chips have both a DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller so they work in AM2, AM2+, and AM3 boards
AM3+ chips only have a DDR3 controller and work only in AM3 (not really recommended but physically possible), and AM3+ boards
FM1 chips only work in FM1 boards
FM2 chips work in FM2 boards and possibly may work in FM2+ boards
FM2+ chips only work in FM2+ boards
No need for a source. They are very different pin outs. Just look at the supported CPU for the Sabertooth. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FXGEN3_R20/#specifications
Edit: An Athlon II X2 is a AM3 chip, an Athlon X2 is a AM2 chip. I know you did not put an Athlon X2 into a AM3+ board and have it work. You could however put an Athlon II X2 and have it work.Edited by Kylepdalton - 6/17/13 at 11:54pm
