660TI idling @ 979mhz is this normal?

Thread Starter
My EVGA 660TI is idling at 979mhz at about 47 degrees celsius. I use to idle in the low 300mhz and that would make my idle temp a lot lower. Is a background program causing this? I tried downclocking but i can't turn it down to its old idle mhz. Please help?

Can you use msi after burner to set a 2d clock?

That's what I do with my 7950's. With 4 screens they by default go to a high idol clock so I used msi to clock them down.

Check your Widows power settings. They are probably on "High performance".

If you use a second monitor connected to the card, this is normal.
It will idle at lower speed only if you use a single monitor.

I plugged in a extra monitor for a couple of days but now I am back to single monitor, could my video card possibly be thinking there is one connected?

Post a printscreen with msi afterburner with one monitor connected.
