OP, if you actually consider wasting
your money on PII, I have 960T, which will unlock to 6c @ 4.1GHz that I haven't been able to give away because everyone knows they're incredibly outdated and not worth the effort of f***ing with when it comes to even a low end rig nowadays. An FX6300 will be faster than ALL x4 PIIs, match a PIIx6 and be more cost/energy efficient, with more overclocking headroom.
Don't waste your time. Your FX6100 will be just as fast as the Phenoms you're looking at.
Get a real chip, be it a 63xx, 83xx, or an intel chip. A phenom II will be a downgrade.
There are a lot of people here who want to tell you that a Phenom II will be better than any chip AMD releases for the next 75 years. These guys are delusional. Phenom IIs aren't even cost efficient anymore, they're just a complete waste of hard earned money.
I also have a core2quad 8200 that will match the majority of PII chips that I'll give you for free if you want to believe that just the model number of a PII is worth the electricity it costs to light up your monitor in a forum.
