win 7 / win 8 / win server for media PC?

My media PC sits in my living room and mostly runs XBMC. I have a ton of content on it, and stream it through the house. to other micro win 7 boxes running xbmc on them.
I currently run win 7 on it. Would there be any real gains running another os? Just curious. Thanks in advance. thinking.gif

Hello,

I wouldn't think so. I've tried XBMC on pre-installed on the little TV boxes, and it just don't like my modem/router. So, I think I'll always be a slave to windows media player. And it seems like all gaming consoles can handle the info.

The only way to really get any gains, would be if you could push a better signal, or more formats. However, if you've seen the new Hoppers and Joeys from dishnetwork, they made a few new drives this month, that my computer downloaded, so I'm hoping one day that these will some day be able to stream what you want , to different TV's. My computer shows the joeys, but when I click on a movie and send it to a joey, it says "movie format unknown". There in avi format so...maybe one day. This is on windows 8 64
