How much watts do i need for this rig? - Page 2

But id tend to agree with most of the rest of your statement. The psu in my sig was part of an older build with a i7 930 and a gtx 260 which was then upgraded to sli 470s not too long after. So i'm glad i had the forethought to go overkill and went with an 850 or sli 470s mighta choked wink.gif

A WD Black would consume ~10.5-11.0W when in read or write judging by the outlet results.
So that's at best 60W on top. With my two already in, I'm looking at 80-90W alone for hard drives. (a whole different story with the low-consumption series though)

I have to say MrTOOSHORT is right for a clean and stock state of this rig though. Two drives + one SSD = 2x11 + 5 = 27W at most. The fans - it would depend, but I'd give a rough estimate that 6 fans will be no more than 30W. Round it up to 60W for the drives and cooling, then add in the rest.
However if he decides to overclock it'd be a different story.
The Haswell can peak as high to (judging by some reviews) 135-140W when running the chip under heaver voltage and stressing it?
A 7850 should require another ~35W when overclocked.
So that leads me to

60W for the puny components. tongue.gif
140W CPU
380W for the GPUs

And we're already approaching 600W. Still, he is right about the 850W being a totally overkill with those graphics. tongue.gif

650 watts is more then enough for two 7870 cards hell less could do it

Note that the 7870 use less power then the GTX 570

Thank you all.
