icons messed up on new HDD

Thread Starter
I have an SSD HDD setup (OS is on SSD). I have all my games and programs and stuff on my 1 TB HDD. I recently got a new 2TB HDD because I want more space. I copied and pasted all my HDD folders and stuff to the new HDD. When finished, I took out the old HDD and put in the new one. I switched the name and drive letter of the new one back to the old one so nothing would be confused. And now my icons are all off. The programs that I have used so far work great (although for some reason I had to reactivate Avast and Malwarebytes). Steam games work fine apparently and my Nexus Skyrim mods are good. But about half of the icons for the programs are that icon when the shortcut is broken. But the shortcut works and when I try to change the icon it doesn't do anything. This problem is bothering me because I like the aesthetics of my desktop (I even use Fences Pro)

so... can ya help me out plz?

Oh, and the HDD is a WD Black and it is a bit louder than my old HDD. Is this bad? It doesn't bother me, I just don't want it to be a problem.

WD Blacks are noisy and rough. And awesome. And faster, too.

Get the icons cached - that should do the trick for you. thumb.gif
It's the %userprofile%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db

If it doesn't, you can always resort to quietly mourning while changing each and every icon individually... hehe

You should just delete the old shortcuts and create new ones, even if you rename the new HDD some shortcuts won't work properly, the second you started the OS after you switched HDDs and before you changed the new one to the old path, the OS couldn't find the proper path (since you had removed the 1tb hdd) and screwed it up the location of the icons, even if the shortcut path now works, the icon was lost.

For some reason, after changing the name of the HDD and letter (from H: to F: like the old one was) and then restarting it, everything went back to normal. The only problem was Avast and I have the paid version of it because I would like to support them for all their help over the years. I had to reinstall it and one of their tech guys helped me clear my subscription and start anew.
