No display from VGA

Anyone know whats going on when you have to restart a computer countless times for the display to come up? Happens every time the computer has to be reset... I'm getting post... hard drive seems to be spinning up with no problems but the display won't come on unless I power cycle and even then I'm at it's mercy. I know the VGA works considering when I do get a signal it's fine for everything... it's a little 8500gt so I've played some NES roms without even a hitch. Reconnecting the VGA cable does nothing and I've seen no damage or sharp bends on the cable itself. Any help is highly appreciated.

It's still possible that GFX card is the issue even if it does work once you force it to. You can try resetting your BIOS to default settings(either manually or by removing power and then pulling the battery) or you can try with a different card on on board graphics if your motherboard has them. If that works then great we know it's the card, if it doesn't then it's a case of working through the remaining possibilities.

Thanks for your response... I've managed to figure out where my problem was. It wasn't the VGA it was a faulty PSU so I swapped it out and it's working without any problems now.
