I think in the United States, we realize there's a high degree of broadband adoption, but we're in a lot of countries where people don't have the ability to connect on a daily basis and we want to appeal to consumers worldwide."

A quote from a poster there I agree with.

Quote:
Digital games are not the future. I wish people would stop trying to make this a thing.
Paying $60 to access a file on your machine that takes 10 hours to download and has no re-sale value is pretty lame.

And yes I AM AWARE of the very cheap and great deals you can score with Steam and GOG as I have gotten a few myself like Witcher 1 and 2 unrated editions for $10 at Christmas so one CAN argue that the VALUE of digital game copies is the FLEXIBLITY of the pricing of scoring a $50 game in the $20 range or so and don't care about the LACK of RESALE VALUE as a result of being a digital copy.

But you know also where this guy is coming from if your honest with yourself, and me being a early 30's gamer who's used to opening up a new and exciting game for the first and having that "Fresh game scent" hit you nose and the ability to hold a physical copy after years and still being able to load and play it and remember fond gaming memories is just something digital copies just can't do.

And for great quality games, I don't mind spending the slight extra and the "inconvienence" of going to the store to pick it up at launch night, thats half the fun right there of being a gamer in my opinion

Haha I posted the same but your were a little bit quicker ( didn't see your topic when posting )

So if they delete my topic, I will put my comments here
Quote:
PlayStation boss Jack Tretton says ability to freely resell games creates value in the initial purchase; PS4 won't require online check-in because many countries don't have stable broadband access.

Altrough I do understand and agree with some of the points Xbox One pro posters keep bringing up, I agree with everything Sony has said here.
Ultimately, some users will simply be screwed with Xbox One, and they will have to buy PS4, even if they didn't want to.
Is that really smart strategy for Microsoft ?

We're most concerned about the consumer. And we really appeal to consumers on a worldwide basis

It seems Sony is the only one that has a brain in this console war. As it stands right now they care more about the consumer and the devs.

Most people I know can only afford $60 games because of the $30 they know they can get back out of them. If xbone games aren't 30 bucks to begin with, nobody will be able to but more than a few.

What i found cool is i found this article its not exactly about the xbox or ps4 but it makes alot of sence from a real dev used games arent the problem crappy short games are kinda ties into what they are saying about Flexibility.

And then there is the excuse that games don't lose their value, compared to the aging of cars. While in truth games age just as much. Hype / popularity dwindling makes for bargain bin buys.

Not to mention graphical/technological aging.

Well, when it was said that people buy games for $60 with expectation to sell them for $30 I think it is assumed that the game would be sold rather soon after release.

Though that brings in another view point on used games. I've never understood why some one would spend $50 for a used copy and not spend $10 more and actually have some money go to the publisher, but if some one is only buying the game under the knowledge that doing so will get them $20-$30 off of their next game purchase...that could be a real slow down in the amount of sales.

With used games allowed I suppose the actual cost of game isn't $60...it is $60 minus your trade in value. Even with trade ins being ripoffs...that is still putting a decent price on a newly released game. A price that you wouldn't see on Steam for several months. The only downside is that you won't have a game sitting around that you aren't playing.
