I can't use my mouse

Thread Starter
Didn't know where to post this exactly but it is related to using a mouse. I have recently injured my hand and I can't play games on my computer for at least 3 to four weeks. I severed the tendon in my middle finger. I just had surgery to fix this but I can't do much. I use a Logitech G13 gamepad with my left hand and the mouse with my right. Now I have this huge brace and bandages on my right hand. What do people with disabilities do? There's got to be an option right?

If you have a free finger on your right hand you could get something like the Logitech T650 touchpad or if that's too much, their older Wireless Touchpad (this one), I have one and it works great.

There are mice that are vertical instead of horizontal which might be easier to use. There are also trackballs and trackpads.

However if you don't have use of your fingers, both could be a problem still.

are you capable of moving the mouse, just not lifting or clicking it? If so, a very high DPI mouse would allow you to not have to lift the mouse, and you could use foot pedals to replace the mouse buttons. It would take a little getting used to, but would work fine.

If none of this helps, I'm not entirely sure what other options there are out there, but if you could be specific about what exactly you are capable of articulating atm, people might be able to give better advice.

I can't pick up anything because the bandages are so bulky and I also have a splint so I can't move or use any of my fingers. The only thing sticking out is my thumb. I thought of using some Velcro and try using my thumb to left click but I would still have no right click capability. I like the foot option if I could figure something out there. Maybe add another mouse and place it on the floor so I could use my foot to right click. I have more than 1500 hours playing BF3 and I must say I am having withdraw symptoms.

If your thumb is sticking out then a touchpad would still work aswell, just not for much other than browsing the web.

I wouldn't suggest putting a mouse under your foot, but here are a couple options that will work for assigning mouse clicks to foot controlled switches:

You may want to shop around for better prices. You may also need some third party macro software for some of these. I personally own an older version of the Scythe 3 switch model, and while it works fine for assigning keyboard keys and even combos (which is what I use it for), I don't believe it has out-of-the-box mouse emulation without the use of third party software.

It may not be the best solution, but since you can use your thumb you could use a high DPI mouse as suggested above to avoid lifting and map left and right click to buttons 4 and 5 so that you right and left click with your thumb. Not a great solution for say MW or BF, but allows you to play some games.
