Water Cooling Parts...........Help Needed Please

Thread Starter
Need some advice please on what parts I should be looking to buy to complete my first water-cooled system build? Also I will be using a old, but in perfect condition Thermochill radiator which uses the older 3/8” BSPP threads, but I wish to use the newer G1/4" Threads, is this possible?

I will be cooling just the CPU and one GPU for now, may go with two sometime in the future. If there is anything else that you can think of, please feel free. smile.gif

Parts Acquired:

Case: CaseLabs Merlin SM8
CPU Block: koolance 370
GPU Block: EK-FC7970 Matrix Platinum Full Cover Water Block
Pump: Laing Storm D5T Vario Pump x2
Rad 1: Thermochill PA120.4 (480)
Rad2: Alphacool 240 Monsta (80mm)
Fans: Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1850 RPM - 3 Pin

Parts Needed:

Compression Fittings?
Tubing?
Reservoir/Pump Top? (Prefer Tube rather than Bay)
Water Coolant?
Fan Controller? Aqua Computer Aquaero?
Special Tools/Accessories?
Water Cooled Essentials?
Lighting?

For the radiator with 3/8 threads you just need couple of fittings that are that size and can take the tubing size you are after.

For example: http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p7878_13-10mm--10x1-5mm--compression-fitting-outer-thread-3-8
knurled---black-nickel-plated.html if you are using 13/10 mm tubing and on the other parts with G !/4 threads you just use G 1/4 fittings for the same tube size, for example http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p4858_13-10mm--10x1-5mm--compression-fitting--outer-thread-1-4---black-nickel.html

Tubing size effect on cooling performance is neglible as long as you have good pump and D5 should be good enough for that. Smaller tubing is usually easier to handle, turning radius is smaller and such, also fittings can be cheaper, depending on the shop you use. The most common tubing is with inner diameter of 10 mm, for example the 13/10 mm going with the linked compression fittings. Coolant can be just distilled water. And yes, tube res is better than bay res, as its hard to get all the air out of the bay res usually.

Other things are more optional. I would invest also in couple of anti kink spings - they make it easier to make the tight turns with your tubing without having to worry about kinking the tubing. Well within reason ofc wink.gif

Edit: I'm myself using 8/10 mm tubing. It's substantially cheaper, fittings are somewhat cheaper as well and its relatively flexible and can make pretty tight turns with anti-kink spring. Making tight turns without springs is tricky tho as it has relatively thin walls and as such kinks easily as soon as you bend it too tight.
