How to correctly configure 5.1?

Thread Starter
Dear OCN, i've just got my first 5.1 set, and i am aware of the 4 corners/1 subwoofer concept.
I use readltek HD audio manager to configure my 5.1 set. I felt like the read speakers were a bit to quiet. But i wonder how to configure this for movies as good as possible.
The set is a logitech x-540 by the way.

The meters/feet, should it be the ammount that the speaker is away from me? and would raising decibells on the rear speakers be recommended?
Any input is very much appreciated, thanks!

Try upping the DB for the rears, and also try checking off "speaker fill" in "speaker configuration".

I will definantly try that.
Would u happen to know if the rear's are supposed to be less loud then the fronts? should they be equal or not?

I like them to be equal in loudness, but because they can be farther behind you in distance than the front speakers, you may need to boost them.

Good luck smile.gif

It's actually an incredibly common misconception that the surround speakers go behind you. It's true for 7.1+ setups, but with 5.1 youaactually want to have the speakers to either side and only about 15deg behind. Basically, they should be JUST outside your peripheral vision when looking at the screen. Almost all films are mixed this way, and if you look at the speakers in a movie theater, there are none behind you, they're all on the walls beside you.

Interresting idea. In my case they are actually besides me. Since i am sitting against the wall with a pillow in my back on the side where the speakers are mounted. So that kind of solves that.
I've been upping the decibell on the backs by only 4, and it's far better now. I'm happy smile.gif
