the problem is i already tried a 24 pin ATX power supply and the computer beeped to tell me it wasnt getting the correct ammount of power

It could just be that PSU though - I would maybe try another ATX PSU first - something least 400W rated.

the psu i tried was a new in the box 480watt ATX and the pc beeped to tell me the board wasnt getting the right amount of power so i dont think a new atx psu is gonna help

confusedsmiley.png I take it it was a 24pin connector too? and you had that and the 4pin/8pin cpu plugged in too?

its possible that HP have proprietised their PSU to prevent other manufacturer PSUs being used. HP and Dell are known for crap like that. frown.gif

If they have, you're stuck with whatever HP can supply for that model. frown.gif
