What am I doing wrong? e6600

I’ve been trying to clock my new E6600 but I’ve found that @ the stock 1.325v its stable at a poor 2.7GHz max. Is this usual? I’ve found that the average person reaches around 3.2 – 3.4 with stock voltage. I can get it to 3.2 but I have to up the voltage in bios to 1.475 which is pretty high and I’ve read will shorten the life of the CPU by quite a bit! Am I doing something wrong here? I’m using air cooling but it’s a zalman flower 9700 with 110mm fan which is pretty damn good at cooling.

I’m new to overclocking and don’t have any software to measure but I’ve found the machine stable in apps and games on all speeds so far, it’s just I don’t see why I have to up the voltage so far when others don’t need to touch it

Download speedfan and check your temps with 1.475. Keep it under 55C

You should also use your motherboard manufacturer's thermal monitoring software to keep tabs on temps. A vCore of 1.475 isn't THAT high. I wouldnt think that would shorten the life of your CPU significantly either. It's heat that will probably damage it more, so I'd be more concerned with that in the interim.

This chips so bad it wasn't even worth ordering the zalman cooler!

Yesterday i got it to 3.2 today i can't even nail 3.0, i'm back at 2.4 and i'm thinking i'll bloody leave it there too. Talk about having the worlds worst chip!

just curious what are you running the fsb and multiplier at? ram voltage? what are your temps at under idle and load

i've been recomended to not use speedfan for temps as it shows way less then TaT shows u

so download TaT for temp reading's

i have a week 32a its not a good overclocker either but i get it stable @3,7 but im over 1,6v then and temps u dont wanna know lol (i just had it there to test it)
but i doo run it dayly @3,4 1,45v (1,42 after vdrop)
giving 40c idle(TaT)

(edit)
good OC weeks are 28b and upp

It's probably your RAM. I had a similar problem. What RAM/mobo are you using, and what are the stock and + voltages you have on the RAM?

I'm confused anymore by tat, speedfan and such.

honestly speedfan gives me the highest readings while tat and coretemp are generally about the same.

though I'm not using the one that just shows cpu temp but the beta version of speedfan that shows each core seperate

Talking about RAM... what speed did you set your RAM on? Best is to put it on DDR2 533 speeds (1:1 with CPU), and then increase the FSB. RAM speed will go up with it.

I have a lousy week 24... going 3.4 stable, 3.5 for benching.
