I need some help getting pc to forget old hard drive.

So I used my main computer to format and put a fresh copy of windows onto a laptop hard drive. That all went well. But the problem is that now this computer remembers the old hard drive and every time I boot up the pc is asks me what operating system to use. Like it shows 2 copies of windows 7. One of those is now gone and I want it to stop asking me every time I start my computer. How do I do that ? I tried to take out my other drive without any OS on it and booting so there is only 1 place where it can boot from but It still remembers the other hard drive. :[

edit the bootloader, remove the old OS from it.

can't really help too much, but I do know why you are having the issue. When you install windows, it searches for any windows installs on any drives in the computer, and adds them to the BCD boot loader. That file is not dynamic, so removing the other drive will not fix the error.

You can try the rebuild fixmbr or rebuildbcd features found in this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392

@ghostrider thanks for that program it did the trick. I first deleted the old entry but it was still asking me (there was only 1 windows there though) then I checked skip boot menu and that fixed it. I have a question though. Is the boot menu skipped like default ? This might be a noob question :[

By default if it has only one entry, it boots directly into it since there is no point in wasting time.
If you have modified it and then turned back to one, you still have the default setting override. So yeah, you can skip it. There is only one boot record and it read straight from it.

So if I do something else that brings up the boot menu again I will have to skip it through the program again ? Only reinstalling windows will fix this completely ?
Yes and no.
If you do something else that brings up the boot menu again (which means you install a Microsoft OS or manually enable the menu), it will be there.
If you want to disable it, that would mean that you will only load in the default boot OS. Which kind of makes the secondary/tertiary/etc OS pointless.

If you reinstall Windows as in your only OS, it will be skipped since it's the only one.

To sum it up: If you have 2+ OSes, you need the boot menu in order to choose one.
If you have only 1 OS it is safe to skip the menu (which will show up if you have had a secondary OS boot information written to the record).
