Upgrading Imac (early 2008)

Thread Starter
So my friend just got an early 2008 iMac for free from a relative. The computer is completely loaded with tons of old files and years worth of useless programs. And on top of that, its running OSX 10.5.8 on 2gig of ram and a 250Gb HDD. So i think its in need of an upgrade.

i was thinking 4 gigs of DDR2 800mhz ram, the highest the mac is suppose to support, for a bout $70ish on newegg.ca, my question is do i need mac specific ram or will any laptop memory work?

next would be a new HDD, is a hybrid worth it? and if so, which ones are the best. If not ill just grab any old 500GB

thanks guys

You will need to purchase mac specific RAM for the iMac. I'm not sure if you can throw a hybrid drive into it or not.

Ok I thought I might need the Mac ram. An I'm sure a hybrid drive would fit I'm just wondering of OSX can take advantage of the caching and if there will be any noticeable performance increases
