Which screen(s) for 3 titans gaming setup

Thread Starter
Hi, I'll be recieving in the coming week a rather solid pc (3970x and 3 titans overclocked, 2400mhz dominator, watercool on everything), but I havent chosen what screen I'll be going for yet. It's mostly for fps, at a non competitive level, I've played some WoW and LoL competitively, but that's about it, I guess "immersion" will be more important. My last screen was a Dell 2407WFP which seems to have a ****load of input lag and huge blur (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_2407wfp-hc.htm), and it has never bothered me for some reason (maybe i'm just that bad? The only fps i've played was Quake III arena back then)

What do you guys reckon would be best ?

One 30 inch (which is my preference atm), seems like the hp zr30w is the only option I have since the Dell u3014 is messed up on every single level it seems. Would playing fps on the zr30w be bad? Input lag is fine since there is no scalling, but what kind of blur would I be looking at ?

27" wise, i'd be fine going for one "standar" 2560x1440, but wouldnt that be "wasting" the power of the rig? Watching benchs with sli cards it seems the lower the resolution, the less the sli has value (http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_titan_3_way_sli_review,14.html), at 30" inch resolution it'd be fine, but for a 27" wouldnt I just be "wasting" money on the 3rd card ? (The pc is already orderer so can't change that)
Not really willing to try the chinese stuff, I live in france, customs are like huge lotery there, you never know how much you're gonna be paying at customs, and if i have to sent back a defective one it can just end up costing a trucload of cash.

Last option is 3 1080p monitors. I'm reductant to the idea, so have a few questions on that. What'd be better?60 hz screens with lightboost?120hz?144hz? No computer can handle 120 fps with 3 screens setup anyway, so am I better of with the 3x60hz with lightboost? Everything will be overclocked the the "max" the wc allows (it'll be dual loop with 2x480 and 1x140 rads) so framerates will be better than in this review http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_titan_3_way_sli_review,19.html but in the "long" term run those 120hz monitors will quickly become useless won't they ?
Which monitor would you recommand for a 3 screen setup (with sharp edges and stuff)? (Budged for my screen is like 1500$ max). Do a lot of games really support that resolution? Also, my mouse is a zowie fk(spent a lot finding a suitable mouse, would suck to have to change), which comes with preset dpi(spent a lot of time/cash finding a suitable mouse, would suck to have to change), you can't adjust vertical/horizontal dpi, wouldn't that suck a lot if i were to play in a 3 screens setup ?

Out of the 3, what would you recommand?
Thanks a lot, and sorry for the aproximate english

6000x1920 TN panels overclocked biggrin.gif
5 Portrait displays.

Joking aside, you might be interested in (a couple of) QNIX 27' 1440p monitors which you can actually overclock very well.
In fact, you can push some not-so-demanding games on up to 120Hz if you're lucky. But generally they overclock to at least 100Hz.

Edit: Just look at this thread. It has all the information you need. And with your GPU setup, I wouldn't look anywhere else. thumb.gif Go for multiple displays. 60Hz you will do just fine on the demanding games, with the possibility of 100Hz+ on the others.

If you want to avoid importing korean then i would go with a 144hz lightboost panel, that or get a 1440p Dell as they tend to have a bit better review overall(stand calibration etc). On one hand if you play lots of FPS then i would go 1080p at 144hz but if you are not strictly gaming then i would strongly advise going 1440p. Your screen real estate will be enormous and even crazier if you downsample.

Pity - they are awesome value. If it must be local then for about twice the price you can get similar 27'' DELL's usually at 2560x1440 - do 3x portrait Surround with these or .. well .. I quess that will also be off limits as it would also involve importing screens - get 3x 4K screens (they cost about the same as 27'' DELL's just no warranty and only 30 Hz - http://www.overclock.net/products/skyworth-39e780u-uhd-tv/reviews/6071) - Asus is supposed to release similar screen with displayport soonish which will go probably a little bit under 1k $. Or just get a single 4K screen - if you have any reasonably priced within reach where you dont end up in import troubles.

How about that last hazro 30inch panel ? Anyone have had good experience with it ?

Also benchs wih 3 1080p monitors with tri titans show some games are already quite low on fps, not sure 3 1440p is really doable

Thanks for responding !

Depends on the games, but 3 Titans should be enough to get decent frame-rate in anything you can throw at it even with 3 screens. Problem with some reviews is that they just dial straight to Ultra and do not look at the settings at all - you dont need x16 or x32 AA on such resolution (as you will not be sitting 6 inch from the 3 screens) for example. If you actually look at the settings you can optimize the visual quality so that you will hit the desired frame rate with which you are still happy enough. It's not like there is anything on market atm stronger than Titans. So if Titans don't give you the desired quality nothing probably will and you are probably overdoing something you will not see in reality anyway.

I personally prefer pixel amount to the refresh rate if I have to pick one, but its matter of personal preference. If refresh rate is more important to you than resolution then there is nothing wrong in going with 1080p high refresh rate screens.
