hello friends,

i need help deciding which way to go,

1)

amd fx 8320 , msi 970a g43 motherboard, amd radeon 6450

or

intel core i5 4430+cheapest mobo possible+integrated graphics

i have bought 1X4GB corsair vengeance ram which i'll be using

my main use will be studing, 3d rendering, web browsing, light gaming at 1024X768 so i dont need a high end graphics

how much will be the difference in power consumption and can i decrease the consumption of 8320 by disabling 4 cores and undervolting it

any help will be much appreciated will be building in July 2nd week or so

It would be nice if you could specify your budget. Maybe we can get a better option apart from the two options that you have stated. If you only have those 2 options, I would say go for the first option. The 8 cores will be very good for multitasking and 3d rendering, of course for gaming too especially at 1024X768 resolution. At 1024X768 resolution, HD 6450 is more than enough especially for light gaming.

Honestly, if you are using it for what you claim, and want to shut down 4 cores of the 8320, go FM2. If you don't already have discrete graphics, go with the AMD Richland A10-6800K, and buy a MSI FM2 A85X-G65 Mobo, and some 2133 MHz memory, or 1866 MHz and OC the CPU/GPU/Memory.

If you already have a discrete graphics card, stick with the same Mobo above, and buy a AMD Athlon X4 750K, and 8 gigs 1600 MHz ram, and OC them. I obtained 4.8 GHz stable on air on the CPU. Not bad considering that it is an $84.99 CPU on Newegg.

The only reason I am throwing the ram speeds out there is because you didn't specify what speed you have now. The more ram in two slots, the better, with 8 gigs being the recommended amount for most people.

Edit, saw you were going for a 6450. Go for the A10 in that case, it spanks a 6450 dead. You would be gaining the equivalent of the Radeon 6670, which isn't bad for a 1.5 inch piece of silicone, squared.

Thanks, i just dont have enough money these are the best choices i can buy, how much will be the difference in power consumption and performance

i dont want to make my system obsolete within two years or so so for now i will disable the cores because of the power consumption and i can enable it any time i want
Ram is 1600 9-9-9-24 vengeance 4GB

i dont have the Graphics card now but have to buy because cpu or MB doesn't have the integrated graphics

I may have news for you, any system bought today will most certainly be considered "obsolete" in two years in some way or another. I say go on the cheap for the things you are doing/plan on doing for the time being. But to each his own. It seems as though you are pretty set on the 8320. My ultimate suggestion is to read up and make a decision based on what your budget is, price/performance, and go from there. Good luck and let us know what you went with ultimately! BTW, I OC'd that exact same ram to 1866MHz, no problems with my 750K build. I am shooting for 2133 tonight!

You should be able to. The MSI 85x is a beastly good board though! !) read up on some reviews on that board. I went with the 85x due to wanting to xfire, vrm cooling, and an 8+2 power phase. My voltage is still 1.65. Timing is 10-11-11-30-2t at 2133 MHz!
