PS3 & Xbox 360 to PS4 & Xbox 1 the new graphic era?

Hello,

I've been wondering this for a couple of weeks. We all know graphics on PC are held back by xbox and ps3 10 years old hardware. My old 5870 is still sufficient for a 60 fps high settings. I changed for a 7970 and it was overkill. I don't see much difference between ultra and high (In My Own Opinion).

How was the graphic before the ps3 & xbox? I was too young to know. Did it exponentially got better making your system useless in years (2-3) or in yearz (5+, like now)?

It's pretty sure with these new consoles we will see better graphics and more demanding games but by how much (based on the previous ps3/xbox)?

I think that's quite a relevant consideration to have before buying new hardware. I am personally holding for a new gpu due to that.

Better, yes. Not exponentially, though, which would be enormous.

No necessarily enormous. Where did you go this?

Exponential function can have limits (let's say 10x the power of the PS3/Xbox). It can grow rapidly and reach the limit really fast or slowly approaching said limit.

You can have exp function of any form.
