Framedrops in a pattern

Thread Starter
Hello
Does anybody know what may be causing the framedrops every 4 seconds (the time between the framedrops depends on the temperature I think, so +/-4 seconds ) I experience with my computer? The framedrops is sneaking up on beginning with a framedrop from like 90 fps down to 25-30 fps (It doesn't matter what's happening on screen) and after a while the framedrops are huge, from 90 down to often >10 fps, every 4 seconds or so.

This is so goddamn annoying, It's impossible to play games. Even some of the visualizations in Media Player is getting framedrops!!

I had a X800GTO before, I had the same problem with that, so I got it exchanged with a X1600PRO (Yeah I know it sucks, but it wasn't my choice) and it worked for couple of months, and now I have that damn problem again! Is it possible that also THIS graphiccard is faulty? Or is it something else like power or cpu?

If you know, and if you took the time reading this novel, I am very greatful for your help! Thanks!

/Micke

hmm sounds like there is nothing wrong with temp, it might be the drivers for your card. your best bet would be to completely reinstall your drivers but first yous hsould some sort of program like driver cleaner to help you

steps-unistall you old drivers and catalyst control center
step2-restart and if you computer installs drivers for you card let it do so and then unistall but dont restartafter that
step3-then use a program to clean out drivers, clean your machine then install the leatest ati drivers

this worked for me becasue i used to get 40fps on my 9600 until i did all that and i get around 80fps now

I can go in for that your PSU is too weak. Those Intels are pretty power hungry.

I'd also say that your PSU is lacking.

Hunt for a better one!

But it's a 3,2 GHz Intel Pentium 4! It can't be that ****ty... and the "every 4 second framedrops" can't be there just because it's a lousy PSU, because computers with much worse PSU's can run games without that strange framedrops. It might be that the PSU is faulty, but it can't be just because it's "weak". Whatever 3D program I run I get the same framedrops so... Well, thanks for helping ^^ And I will try that drivercleaning you mentioned, worth a shot... Thanks! /Micke

That... did not help... but hey, at least that new drivers found out that I have a Sapphire card now! (Didn't know that before, it doesn't say anything about that)

It's obviously not your GPU, and apparently not its drivers. Try reinstalling your motherboard drivers perhaps? Esp. the ones for your graphics slot

Ah what the heck, I'll just re-install Windows.. that would do it. Then directly after installing all the drivers I shall make a "Restore Point(?)" to prevent reinstalling all the time..
